California Education Code Section 49472 authorizes school districts to inform parents or guardians about the availability of student accident and illness insurance to help cover medical expenses in the event of a school-related injury. While our district does not provide this coverage directly, we encourage families to consider purchasing a policy to help protect their child. The safety of our students is of critical importance to all of us and we want to protect them from injury. Even so, accidents do happen (at school and elsewhere) and required medical care can be expensive.
There are several low-cost insurance plans available through private providers. These plans are optional, but can offer peace of mind by covering expenses from injuries that occur during school hours, sports activities, or even outside of school. Some well-known providers include Myers-Stevens & Toohey, Pacific Educators Insurance, K&K Insurance, and Student Insurance USA. If your child is already covered under a health plan, these policies may serve as supplemental protection.
Families may visit the providers’ websites directly or search online for “student accident insurance California” to review options and enroll. If you need assistance or would like a list of providers, please contact the school office.
